Soak black gram dal in water for 4-6 hours. This softens the beans and helps them cook faster, resulting in a smooth, creamy dal
Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and finely chopped onions. Sauté until golden brown for that signature aroma!
Add soaked dal, chopped tomatoes, turmeric, and salt. Let it cook in a pressure cooker or simmer in a pot until tender and perfectly blended with the spices
Once the dal is cooked, use a hand blender or mash it slightly for a creamy consistency. The smooth texture adds richness to every bite
Prepare a tadka by tempering garlic, cumin, and red chilies in ghee. Pour this sizzling mix over your dal for an added punch of flavor
Serve the rich, creamy Black Gram Dal with steamed basmati rice or soft roti. Garnish with fresh cilantro for the perfect finish
