Green moong dal (split green lentils) Water (for soaking) Turmeric powder Cumin seeds Ginger Green chilies Salt to taste Fresh coriander leaves Oil
Soak the green moong dal in water for 4-5 hours or overnight. Once soaked, drain the water and grind the dal into a smooth batter, adding a little water to achieve a pancake like consistency.
In the ground moong dal batter, add turmeric, cumin seeds, grated ginger, chopped green chilies, and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients. Add chopped fresh coriander for a burst of freshness.
Heat a non stick pan or tawa on medium heat. Drizzle a little oil and spread it evenly. Once the pan is hot, it’s time to cook your cheelas!
Pour a ladleful of the batter onto the hot pan, spreading it into a thin circle. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side until crispy.
Once cooked, remove the cheela from the pan. Serve hot with mint chutney, yogurt, or your favorite dip for an extra kick of flavor.
