For the Fish Marinade:

  • 500 grams Fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or any firm white fish), cut into chunks
  • 1/2 Cups Plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • Salt to taste

For the Masala Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 Large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Large tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/2 Cups Heavy cream
  • 1/2 Cups Water (or more as needed)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

    1. Marinate the Fish:

    • In a bowl, mix yogurt,lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garammasala, cumin powder, and salt.
    • Add the fish chunks to the marinade and coat them well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

    2. Prepare the Masala Sauce:

    • Heat oil in a large panover medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
    • Add finely chopped onionsand cook until they turn golden brown.
    • Stir in ginger-garlic pasteand cook for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
    • Add the tomato puree andcook for about 5 minutes until the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
    • Add coriander powder,turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
    • Pour in water and bring the sauce to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10 minutes to blend the flavors.

    3. Cook the Marinated Fish:

    • Preheat your grill or ovento 200°C (390°F). Arrange the marinated fish pieces on a baking sheet or grillrack.
    • Grill or bake the fish forabout 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and slightly charredon the edges.

    4. Combine Fish and Sauce:

    • Gently add the grilled fishpieces to the simmering masala sauce. Stir carefully to coat the fish with thesauce.
    • Add heavy cream and cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Adjust salt to taste.

    5. Serve:

    • Garnish with freshcoriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, or roti.
