Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Rice flour
  • 1 Cup All-purpose flour
  • 1-1/4 Cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp Baking powder
  • 1-1/2 Cups Water
  • 1 Cup Coconut milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Grated cheese or salted egg for topping (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Steamer

  • Fill a large steamer pot with water, making sure it doesn't touch the bottom of the steamer basket when placed inside. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and baking powder. Stir until well combined.

Prepare the Batter

  • Gradually add water, coconut milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and no lumps remain. The batter should have a pourable consistency.

Fill the Molds

  • Grease the puto molds or use paper liners. Fill each mold with the batter until about 3/4 full. Tap the molds gently on the counter to remove any air bubbles.

Steam the Puto

  • Carefully place the filled molds into the steamer basket. Cover the steamer with a lid and steam the puto for about 10-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Add Toppings (Optional)

  • If desired, top the steamed puto with grated cheese or sliced salted egg before steaming for added flavor and presentation.

Serve

  • Once cooked, remove the puto from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the puto warm as a snack or dessert.
